Latcholassie Akesuk

Latcholassie is the son of Tudlik (1890-1966), a well-known sculptor in Cape Dorset. Latcholassie’s family includes many talented artists. His wife, Simaiyok Akesuk and his children, Ulayu Akesuk (son), Suqualuk Akesuk (adopted son) and Milutituk Petaulassie (adopted daughter) are also Cape Dorset sculptors.

Latcholassie enjoys working mainly with stone. His sculptures are imaginative with minimal detail, giving an abstracted appearance to the forms. He is well-known for his fanciful sculptures of bird forms.
