Tivi began carving in 1954, as a pastime when he was not out on the land hunting and trapping in the winter, or fishing in the summer. His sculpture often reflects this knowledge and his carvings often have a narrative quality, as they describe traditional life. Tivi’s wife, Susie Arnakadlak Ilisituk, is a carver and crafts artist.
